Taxonomy
Gastroplites subquadratus was named by Nagy (1970). Its type specimen is PMO A32827, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality 20, Stellingfjellet, Staupbreen, which is in an Albian marine shale in the Carolinefjellet Formation of Svalbard and Jan Mayen.
