Hamites (Stomohamites) subvirgulatus was named by Spath (1941). Its type specimen is BMNH C39920, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Hamites virgulatus by Cooper and Kennedy (1979); it was recombined as Stomohamites subvirgulatus by Szives (2007); it was recombined as Hamites subvirgulatus by Haas (1942), Kennedy et al. (2008).
