Taxonomy
Cardium ferox was named by Dana (1849). It is a mold. Its type locality is Wollongong Point, Illawarra (USNM coll), which is in a Wordian coastal siliciclastic in the Gerringong Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Conocardium ferox by Rogalla and Amler (2006).
