Taxonomy
Modiola recta was named by Conrad (1837) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; British Columbia-Mexico.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Modiolus rectus by Dall (1898), Arnold (1903) and Hertlein and Grant (1972); it was recombined as Volsella recta by Grant, IV and Gale (1931) and Delong (1941); it was recombined as Modiolus (Modiolus) rectus by Moore (1983); it was recombined as Modiolus (Modiolusia) rectus by Coan et al. (2000); it was recombined as Modiolatus rectus by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012) and Hendy (2021).
