Borsonia ludoviciana was named by Vaughn (1896) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6519].

It was recombined as Cordiera ludoviciana by Dockery (1977); it was recombined as Cordieria ludoviciana by Harris and Palmer (1947), Kosnik (2002).
