Taxonomy
Lumbrerasaurus scagliai was named by Donadio (1985). Its type specimen is MMP 1418, a partial skeleton (anterior portion of left maxilla (MMP 1418-1) with fragmentary teeth, posteromedial portion of left maxilla (1418-2) with teeth, proximal end of left pterygoid ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Estancia Pampa Grande, East of Route 9, between Bordo and Toro Rivers, which is in a Ypresian terrestrial mudstone/marl in the Lumbrera Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Lumbrerasaurus.
