Pentzia hilgardi

Taxonomy
Fulgur hilgardi was named by White (1889). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS loc. 405, Pentz Area, which is in a Campanian coastal siliciclastic in the Chico Formation of California.

It was recombined as Eripachya hilgardi by Cossmann (1901); it was recombined as Pentzia hilgardi by Squires and Saul (2003).

Saul 2003Shell up to 37 mm in height; pyriform; spire low conical, forming about one-third of total height; pleural angle 70 degrees; protoconch (partially preserved) low, rounded, domal, smooth; whorls approximately five, convex except for concave ramp; suture undulatory and, on adults, rimmed anteriorly by low subsutural collar; earliest two whorls smooth; spiral sculpture of raised, strong cords, flat on top with interspaces equal in width or about one-half as wide; one spiral row of nodes near anterior suture of earlier spire whorls; two spiral rows of nodes on periphery of body whorl; ramp with only nonnodose spiral threads on specimens less than 20 mm in height, spiral sculpture weak to obsolete on ramp on larger specimens; earlier spire whorls with collabral riblets extending from suture to suture; aperture elliptical with a posterior notch; siphonal canal long and smooth; siphonal canal somewhat bent to left in adults; columella smooth with thin callus; growth lines opisthocline.
