Erato bimaculata was named by Tate (1877). It is extant. It is the type species of Cypraeerato.

It was recombined as Cypraeerato bimaculata by Schilder (1932); it was recombined as Proterato (Cypraeerato) bimaculata by Schilder and Schilder (1971); it was recombined as Lachryma bimaculata by Cernohorsky (1971).
