Tarrantoceras (Sumitomoceras) conlini was named by Wright and Kennedy (1981). Its type specimen is USNM 400803, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Sumitomoceras conlini by Cobban (1988), Kirkland (1996), Kennedy et al. (2003); it was recombined as Tarrantoceras conlini by Chang (2017).
