Taxonomy
Crypta (Spirocrypta) was named by Gabb (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u]. Its type is Crypta pileum.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Crepidula by Stewart (1927) and Moore (1976); it was Crepidula (Spirocrypta) by Clark (1938) and Schoellhamer et al. (1981); it was reranked as Spirocrypta by Sepkoski (2002) and Saul and Squires (2008).

It was assigned to Crypta by Gabb (1864); to Crepidula by Clark (1938) and Schoellhamer et al. (1981); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trichotropidae by Saul and Squires (2008).
