Taxonomy
Lophoceras umsinenense was named by van Hoepen (1931). Its type specimen is SAM-PCZ19190, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Umsinene river, north of Hluhluwe, which is in an Albian marine siltstone in the Mzinene Formation of South Africa.
It was recombined as Oxytropidoceras (Venezoliceras) umsinenense by Kennedy and Klinger (2011).
