Taxonomy
Pugnellus abnormalis was named by Wade (1926). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dave Weeks place, Coon Creek, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Ripley Formation of Tennessee.

It was recombined as Pugnellus (Gymnarus) abnormalis by Sohl (1960); it was recombined as Gymnarus abnormalis by Dockery (1993); it was recombined as Bizarrus abnormalis by Kiel and Bandel (1999).

Synonyms
  • Pugnellus levis was named by Stephenson (1927).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Pugnellus (Gymnarus) abnormalis by Sohl (1960).
