Kladognathus was named by Rexroad (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: C (Tour-u) C (Serp-l); Sepkoski's reference number: 315, 800; (+ Lambdagnathus Magnilaterella)]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Prioniodinina by Donoghue et al. (2008).
