Taxonomy
Lophiostroma was named by Nicholson (1891) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 903]. It is the type genus of Lophiostromatidae.

It was assigned to Stromatoporoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lophiostromatidae by Stearn et al. (1999), Webby (2015), Jeon et al. (2025).

Synonyms
  • Chalazodes was named by Parks (1908). It is not extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Lophiostroma by Webby (2015).
