Polygnathoides was named by Branson and Mehl (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-l S Ludl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 867]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pterospathodontidae by Clark et al. (1981); and to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002).
