Metacalycoceras guerangeri was named by Spath (1926).

It was recombined as Calycoceras guerangeri by Hancock (1960); it was recombined as Calycoceras (Calycoceras) guerangeri by Thomel (1972); it was recombined as Calycoceras (Proeucalycoceras) guerangeri by Cobban et al. (1989), Kennedy (1994), Ahmad et al. (2013).
