Taxonomy
Neocardioceras transiens was named by Kennedy et al. (1996). Its type specimen is AMNH 44325, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH 3155, Belle Fourche Reservoir, Butte, which is in a Cenomanian marine shale/limestone in the Greenhorn Limestone Formation of South Dakota.
