Taxonomy
Cerithium pyreniforme was named by Deshayes (1833). Its type specimen is UCBL (coll. Deshayes), a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pirena pireniformis by Douvillé (1904); it was recombined as Faunus (Melanatria) pyreniformis by Cossmann and Pissarro (1910); it was recombined as Faunus pyreniformis by Furon and Soyer (1947); it was recombined as Melanatria pyreniformis by Glibert (1962); it was recombined as Moniquia pyreniformis by Pacaud and Harzhauser (2012).
