Tissotia redtenbacheri was named by de Grossouvre (1894). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tunnel de Laugerie, near Eyzies, which is in a Coniacian carbonate limestone in France.
It was recombined as Metatissotia redtenbacheri by Kennedy (1984), Kennedy (1995).
