Taxonomy
Scaphites meslei was named by de Grossouvre (1894). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lavardin, which is in a Coniacian carbonate limestone in the Craie de Villedieu Formation of France.

It was recombined as Scaphites (Scaphites) meslei by Kennedy (1984).
