Cartorhynchus lenticarpus
Taxonomy
Cartorhynchus lenticarpus was named by Motani et al. (2015). Its type specimen is Anhui Geological Museum AGB6257, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South Majiashan quarry (Nanlinghu Fm), which is in a Spathian basinal (siliciclastic) marl in the Nanlinghu Formation of China. It is the type species of Cartorhynchus.

Other features: mandible deep; trunk shorter than in ichthyopterygians by at least five vertebrae; pineal foramen very large; interclavicle cruciform; parapophyses confluent with anterior verte- bral margin. |
