Sclerocormus parviceps

Taxonomy
Sclerocormus parviceps was named by Jiang et al. (2016). Its type specimen is Anhui Geological Museum AGB6265, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South Majiashan quarry (Nanlinghu Fm), which is in a Spathian basinal (siliciclastic) marl in the Nanlinghu Formation of China. It is the type species of Sclerocormus.

Jiang et al. 2016Skull very short, occupying 6.25% of total length; tail long, about 58% of total length; body trunk short and deep; preorbital snout constricted and extremely short, about 30% of skull length; orbit large, more than one third of skull length; pineal foramen large, located at fronto-parietal suture; nasal large; ribs flattened, with blunt distal ends; gastralia robust, forming tight ventral basket; dorsal neural spines tall and vertical, with craniad and caudad flanges sandwiching the thickened shaft; caudal neural spines short with rounded top; femur straight, without shaft constriction.
