Hemicyclaspis was named by Lankaster (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-l S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 672]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Atelaspidiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Osteostraci by Sansom (2009); and to Ateleaspididae by Tinn and Märss (2018).
