Holotype listed as GM 4029 in Meszoely et al 1978 (14659).

Taxonomy

Placosauriops weigelti was named by Kuhn (1940). Its type specimen is GM (Geiseltal Museum) 4027, a skeleton (nearly complete skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Geiseltal general (for specimens with non-specific locality data), which is in a Lutetian lacustrine lignite in Germany.

It was recombined as Xestops weigelti by Meszoely et al. (1978).

Synonyms

Placosauroides abderhaldeni was named by Meszoely et al. (1978). Its type specimen is GM 1366, a partial skeleton (nearly complete specimen of heavily armored lizard in dorsal view), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Xestops abderhaldeni by Meszoely et al. (1978); it was synonymized subjectively with Placosauriops weigelti by Auge and Sullivan (2006).
