Furcacauda was named by Wilson and Caldwell (1998) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Furcacaudidae.
It was assigned to Furcacudiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Furcacaudidae by van der Laan (2019).
