Trivellona avellanoides

Taxonomy
Cypraea (Trivia) avellanoides was named by McCoy (1867). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Muddy Creek (BMNH collection), which is in a Langhian marine marl in the Port Campbell Limestone Formation of Australia.

It was recombined as Trivia avellanoides by Tate (1890); it was recombined as Nototrivia avellanoides by Schilder (1937); it was recombined as Trivellona avellanoides by Fehse and Grego (2012).

D. Fehse and J. Grego 2012Only T. avellanoides has a similar developed dorsal sulcus but the new species is also distinguished by its smaller size (T. avellanoides 16–24 mm v. T. felixlorenzi 10–15 mm), the shape of the aperture, the stronger, different shaped labrum, more close-set ribs and the more elongated anterior terminal.
