Taxonomy
Gunnarites spathi was named by Henderson (1970). Its type specimen is NZGS CE.2129, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Q08/f9639, Southern banks of Opu Creek, Upper Kaipara Harbour, which is in a Haumurian marine horizon in the Otamatea Formation of New Zealand.
