Lyria lamellatoplicata was named by Darragh and Kendrick (2008). Its type specimen is WAM 07.18, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kalbarri (Darragh/Kendrick collection), which is in a Bartonian/Priabonian transition zone/lower shoreface mudstone/sandstone in Australia.
