Taxonomy
Apateon intermedius was named by Werneburg (1996). Its type specimen is NHMS WP656, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Silbergrund near Stutzerbach, which is in a Gzhelian terrestrial horizon in the Mohrenbach Formation of Germany.
