Memonomenos dyscriton was named by Steen (1938). Its type specimen is Narodni Mus. C.G.H. 6163, a partial skeleton (179047), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kostalov, near Trutnov, which is in an Asselian terrestrial horizon in the Lower Rotliegendes Formation of the Czech Republic.

It was recombined as Archegosaurus dyscriton by Milner (1978), Schoch and Milner (2000).
