Taxonomy
Orthogonikleithrus francogalliensis was named by Konwert (2016). Its type specimen is FSL 504258, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Cerin, Jura, which is in a Kimmeridgian terrestrial horizon in France.

M. Konwert 2016The diagnosis is based on the combination of the following characters: Small elongate teleost, maximum total length 48 mm. Long and broad supraorbital bone, posteriorly reaching the dermosphenotic. Mesethmoid with two long, spine-like posterodorsal processes. Preopercular sensory canal with five short tubules. Small conical teeth on premaxilla and maxilla present. Posttemporal sensory canal with two short tubules. Postcleithrum 3 very broad. Forty to 44 vertebrae present (excluding ural vertebrae). Fifteen pectoral fin rays, 14 or 15 dorsal fin rays, eight anal fin rays. Five uroneurals present. Six hypurals present. Hypurals 1 and 2 fused at their bases. Hypurals 1 and 2 fused with ural centrum 1+2. Neural spine of preural centrum 2 as long as neural spine of preural centrum 3. Squamation absent.
