Taxonomy
Xestops savagei was named by Smith and Gauthier (2013). Its type specimen is UCMP 146425 (partial parietal) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Level M, UCMP V70243, which is in a Wasatchian channel lag siltstone/sandstone in the Wasatch Formation of Wyoming.
