Taxonomy
Placosaurus estesi was named by Sullivan and Augé (2006). Its type specimen is MNHN QU-17735 (fused frontal with hexagonal osteoderms) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Perrière, which is in an Eocene karst phosphorite in the Perrière Formation of France.
