It was corrected as Eustenopteron by Berg (1955), van der Laan (2019).
It was assigned to Rhizodontidae by Woodward (1891); to Megalichthyidae by Hay (1902); to Coelocanthiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Eusthenopteridae by Berg (1955), Borgen and Nakrem (2016); and to Tristichopteridae by Jeffery (2002), van der Laan (2019), Young et al. (2019).
