Taxonomy

Cypraea (Epona) mathewsonii was named by Gabb (1869).

It was recombined as Cypraea mathewsonii by Dickerson (1915), Stewart (1927); it was recombined as Luponovula mathewsonii by Dolin and Dolin (1983); it was recombined as Grovesia mathewsonii by Groves and Squires (2023).

Synonyms

Cypraea kerniana was named by Anderson and Hanna (1925). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 245, Grapevine Canyon, which is in an Eocene marginal marine sandstone/shale in the Tejon Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Cypraea mathewsonii by Stewart (1927); it was synonymized subjectively with Luponovula mathewsonii by Dolin and Dolin (1983).
Erato mackini was named by Durham (1944). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Woodmans Wharf, which is in a Priabonian marine conglomerate in the Quimper Formation of Washington.

It was synonymized subjectively with Grovesia mathewsonii by Groves and Squires (2023).
