Trewavasia was named by White and Moy-Thomas (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Coccodontidae by Poyato-Ariza and Wenz (2002); and to Pycnodontiformes by Sepkoski (2002).
