Taxonomy
Paracentrophorus was named by Piveteau (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Paracentrophorus madagascariensis. It is the type genus of Paracentrophoridae.

It was assigned to Paracentrophoridae by Gardiner (1960); and to Amiiformes by Sepkoski (2002).
