Etymology - zappai, the name honours the modern music composer Frank Zappa.
Taxonomy
Ranzania zappai was named by Carnevale (2007). Its type specimen is MSNTC PEL057, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Torricella Peligna, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in Italy.
