Asthenocormus was named by Woodward (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 452]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Asthenocorminae.
It was assigned to Pachycormiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Pachycormidae by Woodward (1895), Friedman et al. (2010); and to Asthenocorminae by Cooper et al. (2022).
