Taxonomy
Sarda stockii was named by David (1943). Its type specimen is LACM 1059, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CIT 334, which is in a Miocene marine sandstone in the Modelo Formation of California.

First dorsal originating above 7th vertebra, second dorsal above 25th, anal below 25th to 26th vertebra. Pectoral and ventral fins very small, caudal fin strongly lunate, caudal peduncle slender. Vertebra 24 + 21 = 45; very small scales evenly distributed over body.
