Gondwanorthis calderensis

Taxonomy
Nanorthis calderensis was named by Benedetto (2007) [= Nanorthis saltensis (Kayser). Benedetto in Benedetto, 2003, pl. 20, figs. 1–4.]. Its type specimen is CEGH-UNC 21674a–b, a valve (external and internal molds of dorsal valve), and it is a mold. Its type locality is along National Road 9 near the La Caldera locality, which is in a Tremadoc transition zone/lower shoreface sandstone/shale in the Caldera Sandstone Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Gondwanorthis.

It was recombined as Gondwanorthis calderensis by Benedetto and Muñoz (2017).

J. L. Benedetto 2007Subcircular to subelliptical species of Nanorthis with multicostellate ornament; costellae tend to form bundles, 9– 10 per 2 mm. Ventral muscle field suboval, with adductor field raised anteriorly, extending beyond the anterior margin of narrower diductor scars. Brachiophore bases varying with ontogeny from bladelike, subparallel, to almost completely masked by secondary deposits. Notothyrial platform very low, subtriangular. Low ridge like cardinal process usually present. Dorsal muscle field varying with growth from indistinct to deeply impressed; adductor muscle scars subequal in size; anterior pair suboval to subtriangular, posterior pair deeply impressed, digitate.
