Apheoorthis humboldtensis was named by Laurie (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is NMVPL1600. Gordon River Road Section. 19 km west of Maydena), which is in a Lancefieldian marine siltstone in the Florentine Valley Formation of Australia.
