Nanorthis carinata was named by Laurie (1980) [= 1904 Orthis lenticularis Wahlenberg; Etheridge, pl. 10, figs 5-9.

= 1974 Nanorthis sp., Corbett & Banks, pl. 2, figs 1,2, 5 (no description).
= 1974 Nanorthis cf. hamburgensis (Walcott); Corbett & Banks, pl. 1, fig. 12 (no description).]. Its type specimen is UTGD 97362 and is a 3D body fossil.
