Saurorhamphus was named by Heckel (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant. Its type is Saurorhamphus freyeri.
It was assigned to Alepisauriformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eurypholidae by Goody (1969), Chalifa (1985) and Bannikov and Bacchia (2005).
