Taxonomy
Symphodus westneati was named by Carnevale (2015). Its type specimen is NHMW 2000z0135/0060a, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kummer Quarry, which is in a Langhian shallow subtidal limestone in the Leitha Formation of Austria.
