It was assigned to Scorpaenidae by Casier (1966); to Genypterinae by Schwarzhans (1980); to Ophididae by Nolf and Dockery (1993); to Ophidiiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ophidiidae by Schwarzhans (2019).
