Taxonomy
Melosaurus compilatus was named by Golubev (1995). Its type specimen is PIN 4276/60, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Golyusherma, PIN 4276, which is in an Ufimian/Kazanian terrestrial sandstone in the Baytugan Formation of the Russian Federation.
