Lampridiformes was named by Olney et al. (1993). It is extant.

It was assigned to Osteichthyes by Sepkoski (2002); to Teleostei by Carnevale (2004); to Acanthomorpha by Gottfried et al. (2006); to Lampridacea by Betancur et al. (2013); and to Lampridiomorpha by Nelson (2006), Bannikov (2014).

Synonyms
