Teudopsidae was named by Regteren Altena (1949). It is not extant. Its type is Teudopsis.

It was corrected as Teudopseidae by Jeletzky (1966).

It was assigned to Mesoteuthina by Jeletzky (1966); to Teudopsidina by Doyle et al. (1994); to Octobrachia by Boyle and Rodhouse (2005); and to Teudopseina by Fuchs and Larson (2011).
