Aeoliscus was named by Jordan and Starks (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gasterosteiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Centriscidae by Danil'chenko (1960), Gaudant and Courme (2014), Argyriou (2022).
